According to many people, January is “Divorce Month.” The popular wisdom says that once holiday celebrations end and decorations come down, people who are unhappy with their marriages head to the courthouse. While the post-holiday period might be the time when spouses start seriously considering divorce, statistics show that more people choose to commence the legal process a little later.

As many families also choose to purchase homes in the spring for similar reasons, it might be a good time to put a home on the market if neither spouse is going to remain there after the marriage is dissolved.
Tax returns — March falls right in the middle of tax filing season. As the previous year’s financial matters are reviewed and closed, it can seem like a natural time to make a fresh start.
